All workshops are offered to all populations including teachers, special educators, Para-educators, administrators, parents, caregivers and service providers.
AT @ A Glance At Your School
Sample a traveling smorgasbord of AT devices and software at a site convenient to you. Learn how to use the principals of Universal Design to ensure equal access to the curriculum for ALL of your students. AT Buffet will provide teachers, therapists and staff with a hands-on sampling of current AT tools and strategies.

An excellent opportunity for teachers to explore a variety of AT devices and software. These can include a guided tour by a facilitator or a less structured question-and-answer format.

Consideration for AT on the IEP will be the focus of this workshop. AT teams are encouraged to participate.

Participants will learn about a range of AT devices that can be used to support students with disabilities who are struggling in the area of organization and study skills.

Inexpensive, lightweight, battery-powered word processor that provides text entry and editing with easy transfer to a computer for formatting and printing.

This training will offer instruction on functional overlay making, using Boardmaker & Speaking Dynamically Pro. Participants will learn to use basic Boardmaker operational tools, personalize functional boards, save and organize boards, link and navigate between your boards, save digital pictures in your library, insert movies and launch applications through your boards.
An introduction to Clicker 5, a reading and writing tool that uses a talking word processor and picture support. This versatile program enables teachers to modify activities to address the reading and writing needs of each student. This training will cover modifying grids, creating your own grids and downloading/modifying free grids from the internet. We also continue to offer training for Clicker 4.

In this class we will explore how to create functional messages for your devices. Brainstorming ideas for step-by-step and other simple communication devices for selected activities will be addressed.

This voice recognition ( speech-to-text) software allows users to operate a computer hands free by verbally dictating the text or commands. Training on this software will include special commands and troubleshooting. It will also include hands-on practice and experience in training your voice to best utilize the program.
This workshop will offer a smorgasbord of tools that are available at little or no cost. Introducing free software downloads, ideas, activities, lesson plans and various other tools to access the curriculum for students of all ages and abilities.
Students can use this to create visual maps, story webs, diagrams and outlines. Kidspiration uses pictures, text and audio to create a visual environment ideally suited for special needs students. You will learn how to create a visual outline and dynamic graphic organizers.

Classroom Suite is an invaluable tool for differentiated instruction. It combines the benefits of creativity tools with customizable curriculum activities for students and assessment tools for teachers. This workshop will include training on basic operations such as downloading pre-made activities, editing activities and creating simple activities.

Participants will learn a basic overview of using IntelliKeys by exploring the set of Standard Overlays, the USB control panel and the Setup overlay. They will then be introduced to Overlay Maker 3 to learn the basic skills of creating overlays. Sample activities with overlays will be modeled.

Learn how to edit toolbars, get a word count, create tables, forms and templates, highlight text, sort lists alphabetically and use the "auto text" and "auto correct" features of Word to support student writing skills.

Participants will use text-to-speech software to read a brief story, enter answers on a test and to use a variety of study skills tools such as highlighters, notes, dictionary, thesaurus and bookmarks. They will also learn to customize reading speed, reading voices, dictionary settings and toolbar options to meet the individual needs of each student.

Review low-tech accommodations used successfully for test taking, note taking, spelling and reading. Participants will make one example of a low tech strategy to take with them for use in their classroom.

Many students struggle with the writing process. This day will be dedicated to hands-on exploration of mid and high tech options available to assist these students. Spend the day with us and let us help you help your students increase their writing confidence and reduce the frustration of traditional pen and paper writing assignments.

Switches and scanning allow students with disabilities the ability to make choices and communicate. This workshop will demonstrate basic switch usage and two-step switch usage with scanning. It will be experiential and provide the participants with activities to take back and use in their classrooms for assessment purposes.

Create dynamic communication boards and stories. You can add pictures, symbols, voice and sounds to your communication board and/or story to guide student learning.

This workshop is designed to acquaint participants with the basic premise of UDL and to provide practical, hands-on experience in adapting their curriculum to provide access for ALL learning styles and abilities.

Participants will learn about a range of AT devices that can be used to support students with disabilities who are struggling in the area of math.

News-2-You is a weekly current events online newspaper. Participants will learn how to download the newspaper along with related symbols to be used in Boardmaker. Saving and organizing your papers will be covered along with practical examples of how to use the paper with all students.
